What Marine Life Can You See in Zanzibar?
Zanzibar’s coral reefs support a diverse variety of marine life. What you see will depend on your dive site, the season, ocean conditions, and, of course, luck.
Divers may encounter:

- Octopus
- Moray eels

One of Zanzibar’s best-known diving areas is Mnemba Atoll, located off the northeastern coast of Unguja.
Its reefs attract divers and snorkelers because of the variety of marine life found in the area. Depending on conditions, divers may encounter turtles, dolphins, rays, barracuda, garden eels, groupers, and many species of tropical fish.
There are diving opportunities for different experience levels around Zanzibar, so you do not necessarily need to be an advanced diver to experience the island underwater. Travelers should choose a reputable dive operator and select a dive appropriate for their certification and experience.
